Marsh Creek Detention Facility Bridge Reconstruction

Replacing Aging Infrastructure While Maintaining Access

TCB Industrial was contracted to demolish and reconstruct the Marsh Creek Detention Facility Bridge, which had been identified as structurally deficient. The project required maintaining temporary vehicle access while improving hydraulic performance for wildlife and water conveyance.

The new structure was constructed as a cast-in-place prestressed concrete slab bridge supported on reinforced concrete abutments with spread footings.

Complex Civil Scope and Environmental Sensitivity

TCB self-performed a broad civil scope including roadway and channel excavation, imported borrow material, rock slope protection, detour construction, aggregate base, asphalt paving, temporary culverts, fencing, signage, and striping.

The project site was environmentally sensitive, with known habitats for multiple protected species. Exclusion fencing and environmental controls were implemented prior to construction, and all work was performed in compliance with the project’s environmental requirements.

Execution and Outcome

Despite encountering unforeseen concrete during excavation, TCB mitigated impacts through equipment adjustments and resequencing, limiting delays to one day. Upon completion, the creek bed was restored with erosion control and willow planting.

The project was completed safely and was recognized with the 2014 American Public Works Association Project of the Year (Under $5 Million) award.
