Overview
TCB Industrial is seeking a Mechanical Estimator with experience supporting bids and proposals for hydroelectric and industrial mechanical projects. The Estimator will work alongside senior staff to develop accurate cost estimates for turbine, gate, valve, and mechanical system overhauls, as well as new installations within powerhouses and water conveyance facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review drawings, specifications, and RFQs to identify mechanical scope and required resources.
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs for equipment, materials, and labor.
  • Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
  • Build cost models in coordination with TCB’s WBS and cost code structure.
  • Assist in preparing technical clarifications, risk analyses, and bid schedules.
  • Coordinate with project managers and engineers to validate constructability and means/methods.
  • Maintain historical cost data and participate in bid reviews and handoffs.
  • Support development of pre-construction budgets and change-order pricing.

Qualifications

  • 3–7 years of experience estimating mechanical or hydromechanical projects.
  • Strong understanding of turbines, valves, piping systems, gates, and power generation equipment.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Excel and Bluebeam; familiarity with estimating or take-off software preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and structural drawings.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience.

Preferred

  • Field experience in hydro or industrial mechanical construction.
  • Knowledge of DSOD/FERC documentation and OEM specifications (GE, Voith, Andritz).
  • Desire to advance toward Senior Estimator or Project Management role.

The Mechanical Engineer will support design reviews, installation planning, and field execution for rehabilitation and new construction projects involving turbines, valves, penstocks, and auxiliary mechanical systems across California.

  • Assist with design review, equipment layout, and constructability coordination.
  • Develop lift plans, rigging diagrams, and field engineering packages under the direction of a licensed PE.
